Depression in Diary of a Part-Time Indian

The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian explores human issues such as depression. The first issue is low self-esteem which reservations have counselors for, “Yep, I belong to the Black-Eye-of-The-Month-Club” pg 4. Another issue deals with employment, “what kind of job can a reservation Indian boy get” pg10. Both of these issues contribute to Junior’s low-self esteem in relation to his health problems. Junior’s lack of motivation leads to depression. “I wish I were magical, but I am really just a poor-ass reservation kid living with his poor-ass family on the poor-ass Spokane Indian Reservation” pg 7.These human issues, low self-esteem and employment, contribute to Juniors depression, yet fires his ambition to succeed.

  2. Thank you, I believe that no matter what you have in life you always have your heart. If you follow what you feel is right then you can achieve anything. Such as Junior, being different from other kids, still has his hopes.
